Wreaths Across America is a national annual event held each December.  The mission is to remember, honor and teach, and the event is carried out by coordinating wreath-laying ceremonies at Arlington National Cemetery, as well as at more than 2,500 additional locations in all 50 U.S. states, at sea and abroad.

In Angelina County, Wreaths Across America will be held once again at Garden of Memories Memorial Park on Highway 59 South in Lufkin.  Wreaths will be laid at the graves of hundreds of Veterans from 11 am - 1 pm on Saturday, December 18.

Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1836 in Lufkin, is raising funds to help supply over 500 wreaths to the event.  One of those fundraisers is going on for Thanksgiving.  The local VFW, Post 1836 location has two large commercial grade kitchens and they are cooking up 13x9 pans of cornbread dressing complete with shredded turkey. Each pan serves about 15-20 people and will available for pick up on Monday, November 22. The dressing will be frozen and ready to thaw overnight in the fridge and bake in your kitchen.

The cost for each pan of cornbread dressing is $25.  That money will be used to purchase up to 3 wreaths for the Angelina County Wreaths Across America at Garden of Memories in December. The deadline for ordering has been extended through this weekend (11/20-11/21).  You may also still be able to order through part of the day on Monday, November 22.

For details and to order, call 936-219-4168 or you can e-mail lufkinauxiliary1836@gmail.com.  The dressing will be available for pick up at VFW Post 1836, 1800 Ford Chapel Rd., Lufkin, on Monday, November 22 from 9:00 am - 6:30 pm.
