Heavy Rain, Severe Storms May Usher in 2017 in East Texas

The New Year's holiday weekend could be stormy and soggy for Deep East Texas.
The return of warm, tropical air will increase the moisture and humidity across the Pineywoods over the first few days of 2017, and the chance of heavy downpours and even severe storms will be on the rise.
The rain chances will enter into the forecast by late Friday night, but by New Year's Eve, that chance of rain will jump to an 80% chance. We're not expecting any severe storms from that round of showers, however, a thunderstorm or two is possible Saturday afternoon.
Then, Sunday night and Monday, another round of stronger storms is expected to pop off across our area. It's those storms that could bring in the heavier rainfall and severe storms. 3-4 inches of rain is expected to fall across parts of Deep East Texas over the next week, with heavier amounts across southern Louisiana and Mississippi.
Temperature highs will climb back into the 70s for Saturday through Monday, however a strong cold front will move in by late next week and could bring freezing precipitation to parts of Northeast Texas.
