According to a release from the Texas Department of Transportation, motorists should expect a change beginning Wednesday on US 69, south of Huntington, as crews begin to switch traffic onto newly constructed travel lanes.

The traffic switch will begin near the Huntington Intermediate School on US 69 and continue to just south of FM 844. The traffic configuration will be two-way, north and southbound directions on the newly constructed portions of roadway on the east side of US 69. Once traffic is redirected, crews will begin reconstruction of the roadway on the west side of US 69.

Southbound traffic will begin transitioning to the east side of the roadway near the middle school. Message boards will be in place to alert motorists of the traffic switch. Raised pavement markers, work zone striping and traffic barrels are also in place to guide motorists through the work zone.

The work is part of a construction project that will widen the roadway from two to four lanes. Motorists are urged to reduce speed, expect possible delays and stay alert to workers and moving equipment throughout the project.
