We are now three rounds deep into the UIL High School Girl's Basketball Playoffs. The Area Champions have been crowned and are now moving on to the Regional Quarterfinals. A win there is a spot in the regional semifinals/finals tournament.

Quite a few teams from Deep East Texas will be in action this coming Monday and Tuesday. Let's take a look at these matchups involving teams from Angelina, Nacogdoches, Cherokee, Houston, Shelby, and Polk Counties.

Madisonville (32-4) vs Jacksonville (26-10), Tuesday, Feb. 21, 6 pm at Hudson High School

  • This will be the third time these two district foes from District 18-4A will face each other. Madisonville was the district champ and Jacksonville finished fourth. The Lady Mustangs defeated the Maidens in their two previous meetings, but one of those victories was by only 3 points.

McLeod (22-11) vs Tenaha (32-2), Monday, Feb 20, 6 pm at Hallsville High School

  • Tenaha has been winning often and by a lot. 50-point and better margins of victories have been the norm in many of their games. McLeod will be their biggest test so far in the Class 2A playoffs, but I don't see McLeod keeping the 4th-ranked Lady Tigers out of the upcoming regional tourney.

Douglass (17-10) vs Hawkins (19-2), Tuesday, Feb 21, 7:30 pm at Henderson High School

  • After a rough start to the season, Douglass has won 13 straight. There should be huge crowd support for Douglass at Henderson High School with a doubleheader slated involving both the boy's and girl's teams from Douglass.

Brookeland (28-4) vs Neches (29-2), Tuesday, Feb 21, 6 p.m. at Lufkin High School

  • Brookeland has been steamrolling opponents this year on their way to a District 28-A Championship.  They are ranked 18th in the latest 1A poll. Neches comes in ranked #2 and looking to return to the state tournament after making the final four last year. Brookeland fans might be doing a lot of traveling within the Lufkin area as their girls tip off at 6 in Lufkin, with the Brookeland boys set to tip off their bi-district in Hudson around 7:30.
