This is the season for giving, but as we all should know, teachers are always giving of themselves, many times reaching into their own bank accounts to supply their students with needs and wants.  That's one of the major reasons that KICKS 105 partnered with Whataburger a year ago to recognize and reward area teachers.

Every school day in East Texas, the Merrell in the Morning Show recognizes an area educator with our Teacher of the Day Award.  We randomly select these teachers from the nomination forms submitted into our KICKS 105 website.  Everyone that is selected as our Teacher of the Day also goes into the drawing which is held at the end of the Fall and Spring semesters.  That person drawn wins a $1,000 classroom grant compliments of Whataburger.

On Monday, December 18th, Maci Dover and What-a-Guy from What-a-Burger and Danny Merrell from KICKS 105, along with some great stealthy help from Huntington Superintendent David Flowers, surprised our latest recipient during a school wide Christmas program.  Mrs. Brandy Hughes, a 1st grade teacher at Huntington Elementary, got the great news and received huge cheers from the students and faculty.

One of her students (Tommy Lunsford) submitted the original nomination, the text of which is below.  Little did Tommy know that his act of kindness would lead to a $1,000 worth of goods for the classroom.

Tommy Lunsford wants to put his teacher’s name in this year. He said Mrs. Hughes is sweet, kind, & caring. He said she helps me when I don't understand something, she answers all his questions and even lets him help her when he can.

Take a look at the surprise announcement in the video above, and remember, we'll awarding another $1,000 winner at the end of the Spring semester, so nominate a teacher or two or three at the link below.
