20 years ago, J'Nelle Short was asked to coordinate a Veterans Day Program at Huntington ISD.  Year one saw a turn out of less than 10 veterans for an event held outdoors at the Huntington football field.  How times have changed.

Wednesday morning at the Huntington High School auditorium, an overflow crowd saw a program that recognized nearly 180 veterans in attendance.  From World War II to current day conflicts, veterans in jeans to their dress blues showed up.  After the program, a complimentary lunch was served to the veterans and their families.

J'Nelle Short is still one of the organizers of the event, but as she was presented a certificate of appreciation, she was quick to thank the many volunteers on the committee who now help steer and produce the show.

Once again, the 2-hour presentation was outstanding.  There was music, dancing, one by one the veterans were introduced, and I had the honor of delivering the keynote speech.  I've now been a part of this great event for over 12 years and it is such a privilege for me and to see a school and community come together to honor our veterans, well, it definitely tugs at my heart.

Speaking of tugging at my heart, I'm glad the lights were turned down when the video below was shown.  Content like this always gets to me.

Thank you Huntington and thank you veterans, may God bless you.
