(Seymour, Texas) - Summer is my favorite season of the year. I love it when it gets to 95°. Sure, the humidity will get to me sometimes but I would much rather be baking then freezing. Plus, it's fun to be able to hang out at the pool or a water park, have a cookout in the evening or just relax on the porch with a warm breeze.

That's not to say that the heat doesn't get brutally hot during the summer months in East Texas. It's not unusual to see temperatures go above 100 degrees for a couple of hours. What is unusual is when temperatures get above 110 degrees or higher and stay that way for most of the day.

The Hottest Temperatures Recorded in Texas Occurred Twice at 120°

Way back in the year of 2011, the heat was brutal in East Texas. There were several days where the low never got out of the 80's. Tyler had two days in a row of temperatures at 110 degrees and Longview had one.

Tyler had a 46 day streak of temperatures above 100 degrees while Longview had two 19 day streaks. It didn't matter what you had your air conditioner set at, it never got cool enough to be comfortable inside your home. Looking back on the summer of 2011, both Tyler and Longview were cooking. Even the breeze was hot and not comforting.

The 2 Hottest Days Recorded in Texas Were True Scorchers

The hottest recorded temperature in Texas has happened twice. On August 12, 1936, it got up to 120 degrees in Seymour, Texas, roughly 50 miles southwest of Wichita Falls. Then on June 28, 1994, the thermometer read 120 degrees in Monahans, Texas, about 35 miles southwest of Odessa.

The Farmer's Almanac expects this summer to be particularly hot this year. Better make sure those home and car air conditioning units are serviced and ready to go.
