Well, Deep East Texas, it's almost that time once again...Time to change the clocks. Twice a year, we go through the frustration of changing the clocks one hour. This time, the time will "Spring Forward", meaning that the time will jump one hour in the middle of the night on March 8th at 2:00 AM. As I'm sure you know, this is when Daylight Savings Time begins.

I personally wish that we didn't have to go through this process twice a year, but hey, it is what it is. Actually, it's not all bad. Don't get me wrong, it's not all good, either. However, it does have its pros and cons.

The Good Things About Time Change

Like I said, there are good things about time change, specifically this "spring forward" time change. Now, this is all my take on it, you don't have to agree. You can take it or leave it. But, I like having sunset move an hour later. It means that it's not dark when the regular workday ends. It gives you time to get errands done before the sun goes down.

The other thing that I consider good about it is that it signals the change in the year. When the days "get longer" it means that we're - usually - done with winter, and we can start to really look forward towards spring and summer (with the exception of those weird snowstorms that we've seen at Easter...).

The Not-So-Good Things About Time Change

Now for the other side of the time change coin...The biggest part is that we lose an hour of sleep. It's just gone. Instead of waking up to your normal amount of sleep, you get less, unless - of course - it causes the next bad thing...

I'm referring to it screwing up your schedule. You know what I'm talking about. I'm talking about waking up at what has been the "regular" time for the last six months, only to find out that you're an hour late. This is when the domino effect starts. You wake up late, you don't get breakfast, you get to work late...you get the idea. It throws off the WHOLE DAY. Then, just when you think you've got a handle on it, a few months down the road, we do it all over again.

I say all of that to say this. Get ready. March 8th, don't let your clock win.
