12 Famous Music Artists You Never Realized Had East Texas Ties
There's no shortage of talent when it comes to musicians in East Texas. Some of them were born here, some made their way through the area at some point in their lives. I grew up in Deep East Texas, and I'm still surprised by some of the big names that have ties to the area.
Music Artists with Ties to East Texas
We've talked about Don Henley before, because he attended Stephen F. Austin State University for a time. Yes, he attended SFA, but he's actually an East Texas native, born in Gilmer. Then there are others that you probably are familiar with also, like Neal McCoy who was born in Jacksonville and is still in the East Texas area today.

But then, there are others that you may not have realized are from around here. The one that took me by surprise was Bryan Hitt, the current drummer from REO Speedwagon. He was born in Center! Who knew that a Classic Rock star started out in Shelby County?
Still there are others that weren't bore here, but they're still claimed by the folks here. One of the ones like this that comes to mind is Country Music star Rodney Crowell. He wasn't born in East Texas, but he attended SFA for a time, earning him a spot on the Notable Alumni page from the SFA Alumni Association.
