
Lufkin Police Investigate Tuesday Night Shooting Near Downtown Lufkin
Lufkin Police detectives are searching for suspects who were involved in gunfire Tuesday night (April 28) just south of Downtown Lufkin. The shooting took place in the 200 block of Finley Avenue.
Around 9:45 p.m., officers, responding to multiple 911 calls of gunshots, found residents gathered in the area on Finley. Through discussions with the group, they discovered that an argument over a parking space and loud music after hours escalated to gunfire between individuals. According to witnesses, it is an ongoing issue, and suspects came to the area in a vehicle and began to shoot at the apartment. One man believed to be involved was detained on site for questioning. He was not arrested. Other suspects were gone before the officers’ arrival.
Bullet holes were found on the outside of the residence where one of the individuals in the argument is believed to live, as well as bullet holes appearing to come from inside the residence. Numerous shell casings were found in the roadway and the grass. The windows of two nearby vehicles and a window of one of the apartments had been shot.
An AR-15, identified as a weapon used in the altercation, was taken into evidence along with other weapons in one of the homes. Officers walked through the area and talked with residents to ensure no one was injured in the incident. The investigation and search for the others involved is ongoing.
