Kacey Musgraves Brings ‘Christmas Makes Me Cry’ to ‘Ellen’ [Watch]
Kacey Musgraves appeared on the Ellen DeGeneres Show on Tuesday (Dec. 3), where the Grammy winner was interviewed and performed an original song, "Christmas Makes Me Cry."
Musgraves wore a red, gold and blue patterned outfit set against her new hairstyle, which features bangs. She played acoustic guitar over a backdrop of gentle strings and a somber electric guitar as she sang the solemn song, which talks about the downside of spending the holiday season alone.
"It's the ones we miss, or no one to kiss under the mistletoe / Another year gone by, just one more that I, I couldn't make it home / And I know that they say, 'Have a Happy Holiday' / And every year, I swear I sincerely try / Oh, but Christmas, it always makes me cry," she sings in the clip above.
"Christmas Makes Me Cry" originally appeared on Musgraves' 2016 Christmas album, A Very Kacey Christmas.

When she sat down for an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Musgraves had her reservations at first after she was pranked the last time she appeared on the show.
"The last time I was here was a little traumatic," Musgraves joked.
DeGeneres congratulated Musgraves on the success of her most recent album, Golden Hour, which has earned her an armload of ACM, CMA and Grammy Awards. Musgraves claimed that she owes the success to timing, saying, "These songs came at a time when we all needed a little bit of an escape from the chaos and the craziness of the political world, the social world."
Musgraves was on hand to promote her new holiday special, The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, which premiered on Nov. 29 and is currently streaming on Amazon Prime. The comedy variety special features appearances from Camilla Cabello, Leon Bridges, Lana Del Ray and Kendall Jenner, as well as a very special guest appearance from Musgraves' grandmother, who stole the show.
Musgraves is in no hurry to film another special, she tells DeGeneres.
"It nearly killed me, so I'm not sure," she admits when asked if it will become an annual tradition.
