A structure fire several blocks away from Ecomet Burley, Sr., Primary School in Lufkin, Texas is causing quite a few major traffic issues this Thursday afternoon. Officials with the City of Lufkin have advised parents picking up their children from the school to access the pickup area via two possible routes.

This is necessary because a portion of Joyce Lane (from Denman Avenue to Burley Primary) will be closed for the next several hours as Lufkin Fire Department works a structure fire in the 200 block of Joyce Lane.

The Alternate routes are  as follows:

Alternate Route 1:

  • Turn left onto Fuller Springs Drive from Chestnut Street/FM58 (expect heavy traffic due to Slack Elementary pickup)
  • Turn left onto Joyce Lane to access the Burley pickup location
  • Exit pickup by taking Joyce Lane back to Fuller Springs Drive
  • Traffic will flow normally on Fuller Springs Drive

Alternate Route 2:

  • Access Tower Lane from U.S. 69 South
  • Turn right on Oakwood Drive
  • Turn right onto Joyce Lane to access the Burley pickup location
  • Exit pickup by taking Joyce Lane to Fuller Springs Drive
  • Traffic will flow normally on Fuller Springs Drive

Drive slowly in the area, expect delays, and respect the instructions of first responders directing traffic. We also ask that people not picking up children avoid the area to lessen the traffic burden.

For those traveling Highway 69 near Central Elementary, one southbound lane remains closed following an early morning collision between two 18-wheelers. Please exercise extreme caution in this school zone area.
