The City of Lufkin has promoted Julie Massey to library manager. With a distinguished career spanning over 23 years with the City of Lufkin and 11 years as the assistant manager of Kurth Memorial Library, Massey has exemplified exceptional leadership and dedication to the library and the community.

Massey’s contributions to the library have been invaluable. She was pivotal in managing library operations and advancing its services, particularly through her expertise in electronic resources, computer literacy, circulation, and database management.

Massey’s educational background, including a Master of Library & Information Science (MLIS) from the University of North Texas, highlights her commitment to professional growth and excellence in the field. In her new role as Manager, Massey will continue to drive the library’s mission to serve the Lufkin community with excellence.

Her extensive experience and passion for library services make her a perfect fit to lead Kurth Memorial Library into its next chapter.

“I am honored to take on this new role and look forward to further enhancing the services and impact of Kurth Memorial Library,” Massey said. “I am grateful for the support of the City of Lufkin and excited to continue serving our community alongside our dedicated team.”

Originally from East Tennessee, Massey relocated to Lufkin in 1999. She began her tenure with the City in 2001 and joined Kurth Memorial Library in 2002. Massey became the assistant library manager in 2013 and completed her MLIS degree in 2015.

Outside of work, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her two dogs and five house cats, as well as caring for a group of semi-feral outdoor cats. The City of Lufkin and Kurth Memorial Library look forward to the continued growth and success under Massey’s leadership.
