Police And SWAT Team Handle Standoff Near Downtown Lufkin
Lufkin Police and SWAT team arrested a 20-year-old Lufkin man on Sunday, July 27, following a three-hour standoff at an apartment in the 400 block of Montrose, near downtown Lufkin.
Francisco Farfan has been booked into the Angelina County Jail. Farfan has been charged with aggravated assault, with other charges possible on Monday.
Lufkin Police initially were responding to a domestic disturbance call. As they approached, the family members came out of the apartment and stated that Farfan was in the apartment and threatened to shoot himself.
Officers attempted to get Farfan to come out of the apartment, deploying gas canisters. After more than an hour, SWAT was called to assist.
Using the SWAT truck, officers pushed open the door; Farfan pushed it closed. A second push on the door and as Farfan approached the door, SWAT members hit him with the less lethal 40-millimeter foam baton round, which knocked him down and officers were able to get inside the apartment and arrest him without further incident.
