I don't think the street department for the City of Lufkin has any road signs with the following warnings:

  • Caution - Mr. Incredible Ahead
  • Warning - Witch Crossing
  • Watch for Unicorns

On Saturday, October 28, those types of signs might come in handy for the Second Annual Trick or Trot 5K and Kids Fun Run presented by Brookshire Brothers.

The morning will begin at 8 a.m. with the one-mile Kids Fun Run, sponsored by Hiland Dairy and Mott’s. The timed 5K race starts at 8:30 a.m., sponsored by Brookshire Brothers.

Cotton Square will be packed with vendor booths, carnival games, pumpkin painting with Lufkin Parks & Recreation’s Mobile Art Park and more following the races. There will also be a contest for the best-dressed kids and adults, so family-friendly costumes are highly encouraged.

New this year, Brookshire Brothers will host the first ever Mascot Mad Dash, featuring many of East Texas’ most beloved mascots.

“There’s something for everyone, even those who don’t consider themselves runners. We’ve created a fall festival atmosphere to give families a safe and fun Halloween experience right here in historic downtown,” said Brookshire Brothers Public Relations & Corporate Responsibility Manager Melissa Crager. “We had such a great time last year at our inaugural event. As Lufkin’s community grocer for more than 100 years, it is incredibly special to bring these kinds of new and fun events to our hometown.”

Those wanting to participate in the races can sign up at www.BrookshireBrothers.com/Brookshire-Brothers-Charitable-Foundation. Everyone is invited to join in the festivities from 7:30 to 10 a.m.

All proceeds from the event benefit the Brookshire Brothers Charitable Foundation (BBCF), a 501c3 organization that enhances Brookshire Brothers’ century-long legacy of giving. Over the past two decades, the BBCF has awarded more than two million dollars in grants to deserving nonprofit organizations and educational foundations so they may better serve their communities.

Brookshire Brothers partnered with Visit Lufkin to bring this exciting event to historic downtown.

“After the Trick or Trot fun, take a walk in historic downtown Lufkin and explore trendy boutiques, one-of-a-kind antique finds and lunch on the Bistro patio,” said the City of Lufkin’s Director of Tourism and Marketing Tara Hendrix. “Make the most of a crisp autumn day and let yourself fall in love with Lufkin.”
