Someone in This Tiny East Texas Town is a Mega Millions Winner
The jackpot for Friday's Mega Millions jackpot was $20 million. That's the base starting point when someone has matched all six numbers of the previous drawing, which took place on June 4.
Someone from Illinois won that whopping $552 million jackpot...good for them.
Mega Millions Drawing for June 7
Nobody matched all six numbers on Friday, but someone who purchased a quick pick in Texas did match all five of the winning numbers, but not the Mega Ball number. That's worth a $1 million payout.
Where Was the Winning Ticket Sold?
Have you ever heard of Old River-Winfree, Texas? I thought I was well-versed about towns in East Texas, but this one escaped me.
Here's the 4-1-1 on the town
- Formerly known as Winfree, community members voted to incorporate the town as Old River-Winfree in 1979. That means Blake Shelton is three years older than the town.
- The population of the town is 1315.
- Old River-Winfree is located east of Houston, near Mont Belvieu.
What Store Sold the Winning Ticket?
Sam's Express #2 located at 12731 FM 1409 is the store that sold the million-dollar Mega Millions ticket. It's certainly not your mega-convenience stores of the modern world.
It has two pumps (with no canopy) and an adjoining washateria.
Oh, So Close to Winning $4 Million!
No word yet on who the winner is, and we will probably never know. Most winners like to keep their anonymity.
I'm sure the winner is ecstatic to get their payout, but if that person had only put down one extra dollar to add the Megaplier option, they would have won $4 million instead of $1 million.
