This morning, Nacogdoches Sheriff Jason Bridges reported the tragic news that an 88-year-old man who had been missing since Thursday afternoon was found deceased shortly before nightfall Friday, August 1.

Silver Alert Issued for Nacogdoches County Man

Friday afternoon, the Department of Public Safety, at the request of the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office (NCSO), issued a Silver Alert for Sydney Alvers. The 88-year-old had last been seen near the 4000 block of County Road 350, near Chireno.

Alvers, who suffered from dementia, had reportedly walked away from his residence on Thursday afternoon. The sheriff's department received the call early Friday about Alver's disappearance.

The NCSO, along with numerous other law enforcement agencies, volunteer fire departments, and search & rescue crews, along with community volunteers, conducted an extensive search for Alvers.

Details of Alvers' Discovery

Shortly before dark on Friday evening, Alvers was found less than a half mile from his residence, lying in a pasture surrounded by tall grass and brush. Syndey Alvers was deceased at the scene, and it was apparent that he had been deceased for some time before he was found.

The Nacogdoches County Sheriff’s Office and the Texas Rangers are investigating his death. At this time, the cause of death is unknown. Justice of the Peace, Pct. 3 Judge Goerner responded to the scene, and an autopsy was ordered.
