Severe weather in East Texas in December is nothing new to us. You may remember the tornadoes that struck our area back in 2009 that caused quite a bit of damage to the east side of Lufkin just two days before Christmas. Hopefully, the storms that we're expecting tonight won't produce that kind of severe weather, but it's always a good thing to be prepared.

Forecasters are expecting an area of low pressure to fire off showers and thunderstorms across the Pineywoods beginning Wednesday afternoon and continuing throughout the evening hours.  Some of these storms could be severe and drop heavy rainfall.  However, late tonight and into the early morning hours of Thursday, a more organized line of severe storms should track across Deep East Texas.  It's these storms that will have the potential to produce the worst of the severe storms.  Damaging straight lines winds, hail, and up to 2-3 inches of rain could be associated with these overnight storms.  Isolated tornadoes cannot be ruled out, as well.
