Downpours On The Way For East Texas

A spring-season cold front is slowly pushing into Texas, and it is expected to become stationary over eastern and southeast Texas. That adds up to increasing rain chances...just in time for Spring Break for many area schools.

Rain chances in eastern Texas start to ramp up on Friday afternoon and continue through much of next week. The latest rainfall accumulation map from the National Weather Service shows much of the eastern half of Texas to be in line for 2 to 6 inches of rain. A series of storms on Wednesday evening caused flash flooding in and around the Dallas area. Water rescues were ongoing near Wills Point, between Canton and Terrell.

The latest update from the Storm Prediction Center shows the possibility of some severe storms developing across the Pineywoods.

Saturday, the upper Texas coast and adjacent areas in central and eastern Texas are at risk of severe storms throughout the afternoon and evening. The biggest threat will be damaging straight-line winds and isolated large hail events in central Texas. A tornado or two cannot be ruled out.
