Powerball Reaches $1 Billion, Texas Player Wins $2 Million Payout

No one matched all six numbers of Monday night's Powerball jackpot drawing. That means the next drawing on Wednesday, July 19 will be for a $1 BILLION jackpot.

Exactly How Much is $1 Billion?

If someone handed you a lump sum of that much cash, you could buy a new $65,000 vehicle every day for the next 40 years and still have a good chunk of change left over. Granted, if one person wins the next jackpot, they won't see $1 billion. The estimated cash value is about half of that, and then there are steep taxes, so 70-80 percent of that money would go elsewhere, but still, $200 million would be more than enough to call your work and tell them you're not coming in today.

Someone in Spring, Texas might be doing just that today. Although nobody matched all six numbers, someone did walk into the store pictured below and ended up matching all five of the non-Powerball numbers.

That person also spent an extra buck to Power Play his numbers which allowed him to double his winnings to $2 million.

The winning numbers for Monday's drawing were 5-8-9-17-41 with a Powerball of 21.

The Powerball game produced two Texas millionaires with Saturday's drawing, however, neither of the players ponied up the extra buck to Power Play, so they did not double their money.

There are also a lot of 'zeroes' in play for tonight's Mega Millions drawing. The jackpot for that is now up to $640 million, with an estimated cash value of $328 million.

Sooner or later, someone will match all six numbers, but, keep in mind, whoever wins that jackpot will have bucked the 300,000,000 to 1 odds.
