Red Cross is Spending Millions on Texas Flood Relief
Anytime there's a natural disaster, the American Red Cross rushes in to help, by setting up shelters and offering food and supplies. And the relief effort involved with the Texas floods may cost millions.
The Red Cross has been helping people in Texas and Oklahoma impacted by the floods and tornadoes, and governors in both states have declared disaster areas in more than 80 counties. The Red Cross says the weather destroyed or damaged thousands of homes and left thousands without power, and they've expanded their relief efforts with extra volunteers, vehicles, food and relief supplies. The Red Cross has already helped families in more than 70 counties, including folks in Van affected by the tornadoes, and many in Hays and Travis counties near Austin because of the floods.
Now the hard part. The response in Texas alone is expected to cost more than $3 million, and the Red Cross relies on donations to meet needs. They're asking for the public's help now. Any amount, from $10 on up will help a Texas neighbor.

The good news? More than 70 percent of Texas is now free of drought.
