The National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for 76 counties in Texas, including portions of north, central and east Texas until 10 p.m. tonight.

Scattered strong to severe storms have been developing across the Texas Hill Country this afternoon, along with a couple of storms in the Dallas area. These storms have been moving towards the east and southeast.

The primary threats from storms that develop in this watch area include scattered large hail with isolated very large hail events to 3.5 inches in diameter, scattered damaging winds, and isolated significant gusts to 75 mph are possible. A tornado or two could also form.

The moist and hot conditions across the watch area is expected to act as a catalyst for rapid thunderstorm development during the afternoon and evening hours. Persons living in the watch area should remain alert to changing weather conditions.

Remember, a Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce tornadoes.
