Friday, Southland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center in Lufkin organized and hosted 'Unity in our Community'.  The event was designed to bring law enforcement, first responders, and the community in general for a day of fun, food, prayer, patriotism, and camaraderie.

Numerous vendors and sponsors were on hand at the event which featured live entertainment, door prizes, food, emergency vehicles, and more.  At noon, an on-stage program began which included remarks from Lufkin Mayor Pro-tem Mark Hicks and Lufkin Police Chief Gerald Williamson.  The Pledge of Allegiance was delivered and Joe Morales sang the National Anthem.

Prayers for the event were also delivered by Jay Gilchrist of CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial as well as Chaplain Cindy from the City of Lufkin Police.  Many other dignitaries such as Lufkin Mayor Bob Brown, Angelina County Sheriff Greg Sanches, Captain Alton Lenderman, and Constable Tom Selman were in attendance.

Kirsten Redd with Southland Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center said that she and the staff of the facility were very pleased with the turnout and the overall outcome of this first year event.
