October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and KICKS 105 has teamed up with CHI St. Luke's Health Memorial - Lufkin to use our on air and online platforms to help educate women in East Texas on how to best prevent this disease.

Thousands​ ​of​ ​women​ ​across​ ​Texas​ ​delay​ ​or​ ​skip​ ​their​ ​breast cancer​ ​screening​ ​because​ ​of​ ​barriers​ ​such​ ​as​ ​distance​ ​and​ ​finances.​ ​Now​ ​they​ ​have​ ​an​ ​option plus​ ​the​ ​advantage​ ​of​ ​3D​ ​Mammography​ ​Screening.​ ​

Every year in October, CHI St Luke's Health Memorial - Lufkin asks their employees and the community to use bras as a canvas to make a statement when it comes to the fight against breast cancer.

Talk about your lucky breaks. Bud Stringer walked into a barber shop recently with a noble goal. His wife of twenty years, Dolly, was losing her hair due to the chemotherapy she had to take for breast cancer, and Bud wanted to show support by shaving his head as well. Good thing too, as it revealed a cancerous melanoma on his scalp.

Kellie Pickler’s hair is gone y’all! Rootin tootin! Lord have mercy! Ain’t that a stitch! Whatever else southern folk would say when something crazy happens. Good god and Honey Boo Boo! We know that’s a real saying.

I wanted to pass along this story in October since it is breast cancer awareness month...and, as I usually do, I have waited until the last minute.  I ask that you please read this story of my mom...I believe you will find it uplifting and a great testimony to the power of prayer. My mom turned 74 in June...it was a birthday she wasn't expected to have.

To help support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, country star Keith Urban is donating a customized Fender guitar to an auction benefiting the Susan G. Komen for the Cure foundation. Bidding for the guitar, which is black and adorned with a pink ribbon, will start at the end of October, after Urban has played it at each of this month’s shows.

The Susan G Komen 3-day for a cure is an event where ladies walk 60 miles in 3 days to raise money in the fight against breast cancer. A team from the Lufkin area will be in this, but, they are looking for a catchy team name.
