In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas (NFGT) invites everyone to enjoy a fee-free day at their designated day-use recreation areas on Monday, January 20, 2025. 

This annual fee-free day celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., promoting public service and community connection. Visitors can take this opportunity to explore the beauty of the national forests and grasslands while reflecting on Dr. King’s vision of unity and service. 

What to Expect: 

From hiking trails to picnic spots and scenic views, these areas provide opportunities for recreation, relaxation, and connection with nature.  

Plan Your Visit: 

  • Pack it in, pack it out: Help keep our public lands clean by taking all trash with you.
  • Dress appropriately: Winter weather can vary, so wear layers and sturdy footwear.
  • Respect wildlife: Observe animals from a distance and follow all posted guidelines.

Please note that overnight camping and other fees for amenities, such as boat launches, may still apply. 

Angelina National Forest – Boykin Springs, Caney Creek, and Townsend. 

Sabine National Forest – Haley’s Ferry, East Hamilton, Indian Mounds, Lakeview, and Willow Oak. 

Davy Crockett National Forest – Ratcliff Lake.  

Sam Houston National Forest: Cagle Boat Ramp, Scotts Ridge Boat Ramp. 

Caddo and Lyndon B. Johnson National Grasslands: Coffee Mill Lake, Black Creek Lake, and East Lake Crockett.
