The Z&OO Railroad Is Looking For A New Engineer In Lufkin, Texas

If you have ever ridden the Z&OO railroad at the Ellen Trout Memorial Park & Zoo you know the operator is in control. It's pretty much every kid's dream job, once they have had the thrill of riding with the wind in their hair.

In reality, it is a hard job keeping this service project of the Lufkin Host Lions Club moving. The miniature locomotive doesn't offer much in the way of creature comforts for the person at the front of the train.

Z&OO Railroad Is Running At The Ellen Trout Memorial Park & Zoo

Engine No.337 has been in service at the park since 2004. Just seeing its glossy red paint and brass-colored accents starts the kids begging to ride.

Rides are still a very reasonable $2 per ride. Children 3 and under ride for free

They are running weekdays now until school starts. Weekends started back in March and run until the last week in October.

What Do They Do With Funds Raised From The Z&OO Railroad?

All of these rides go toward funding the local works of the Lufkin Host Lions Club. They also go, oddly enough, to feed the lions at the zoo.

I guess it's pretty cool to be in the Lions Club in Lufkin and actually have the train pay to feed the lions. The train rides started in 1969 and might just continue with you in the front seat.
