Three 90+ Point Rides Highlight Night Two of Mutton Bustin’
Imagine a bull riding event in which past and present champions such as Ty Murray, Lane Frost, Tuff Hedeman, J.B. Mauney, Cooper Davis, Chris Shivers, and Jim Sharp all competed head to head. That was kind of the scenario Thursday night at the Angelina Benefit Rodeo, except we're talking about mutton bustin'.
I don't know if there are records kept, but I don't recall there ever being three 90+ rides on the same night. But, that's exactly what happened Thursday night. Not to mention there were four 80+ point rides as well. Talk about a night where it seemed the best of best came to show off their riding skills.
Bret Ball of Lufkin got the electricity going early as the first rider of the night scored 92 points on the sheep named Wooly Nelson. A few riders later, Daisy Gray of Hudson showed what a cowgirl could do by riding Miranda 'Lamb'ert for a ride of 90 points. Then, the final rider of the night, Parker Thomason of Huntington rode Fluffy Fury for 94 points. In this ride, Thomason stayed on the sheep through the middle of the arena before the sheep fell over, but when the sheep got back up, Thomason was still aboard. The crowd went wild, one of the 'wool fighters' hoisted the young cowboy up, and Thomason was crowned champ with the 94-point ride.
Here are the riders and their point totals for Thursday night:
- Bret Ball - 92
- Easton Bowers - 75
- Carson Brown - 84
- Warren Cole -74
- Daisy Gray - 90
- Boone Maddux - 85
- Kale Milford - 77
- Kane MIlford - 88
- Cade Sanders - 89
- Nolan Stanbery - 74
- Parker Thomason - 94
You can check out the video for all 11 rides, unfortunately, our recording device ran out of memory halfway through the final and championship ride of the night.
We'll do it all over again Friday and Saturday night with 12 more riders scheduled to go each night.
Here's a look at tonight's scheduled riders.
