1949 - Kieran Kane is born in Queens, New York. He has moderate commercial success as a solo artist in the early-1980s before joining with Jamie O'Hara to create The O'Kanes. In the 1990s, he co-founds Dead Reckoning Records, an artist-owned indie label.

1940 - Bill Monroe has his first recording session with the Blue Grass Boys, at the Kimball Hotel in Atlanta, for RCA Records. Among the day's tracks: "Mule Skinner Blues".
