Woodland Heights Medical Center is proud to announce that they are the first facility in Lufkin to utilize a new leadless pacemaker to treat patients with bradycardia.

The device is implanted directly into the heart using a minimally invasive approach that does not require the use of leads. This redefines the patient experience by reducing activity restrictions post-implant. It also eliminates the chest scar or bump that comes with transvenous pacemakers.

Dr. Vivek Mangla, MD, Electrophysiologist/Cardiologist was the first in Lufkin to implant the new pacemaker. “Reducing complications will always be a priority for us,” states Dr. Mangla. “Utilizing the newest leadless pacemaker helps us do just that. It assists in redefining the experience in the cardiac catheterization lab and our patients will benefit from it.”

The new device has a projected median longevity of 16.7 years, which is 36% more than its predecessor. This increased battery life means that more than 80% of patients are projected to need only one device for life. These leadless pacemakers are the world’s smallest pacemakers for bradyarrhythmia management.
