We are now three rounds deep into the UIL Softball Playoffs, which means we're just 3 weekends away from the State Tournament in Austin to ultimately crown state champions.  Many Deep East Texas teams are still alive in that hunt.

CLASS 3A REGION III

Two district foes are still playing in round 3.  The Hudson Lady Hornets continue their quest for a 3rd straight state title.  Hudson passed a huge gut check of a series last time out against Waco Robinson.  After getting whipped 12-0, the Lady Hornets were down to their last out in game two before notching the comeback win and then handily winning the 3rd and deciding game.  However, to advance to the regional semifinals Hudson will have to win tonight (Friday) as their series with Caldwell will be a one game, winner take all series.  This battle of the Hornets was set for Madisonville tonight, however, due to wet fields the game has been moved to 7pm tonight at College Park in The Woodlands.

Meanwhile, the road has been a little easier for the Huntington Devilettes.  They disposed of Fairfield 17-1 in their first round game, then Huntington took two straight, in much closer games, against Lorena.  The Devilettes will take play a best of three series against the West Lady Trojans.  West took two straight against Rusk last week to advance to round 3.  The Devilettes and Lady Trojans will play their series games in Buffalo with the first game getting underway tonight at 7.  I'll have the play by play of that game on our sister station, Q107.

In other 3rd round games:

  • Garrison vs Woodville, Best of 3 series, all games in Lufkin
  • Cushing vs Beckville, Best of 3 series, all game in Center
  • Cayuga vs Grapeland, Best of 3 series, all game in Frankston
  • Alto vs Zavalla, Best of 3 series, all game in Central
