What I loved most about the springtime when I was younger (other than Easter treats)  was the sunny weather, the countdown for school to be over and seeing all of my weekends booked for friends' birthday parties on the kitchen calendar.

Since Easter weekend is coming up, it reminded me of all the fun times I had as a kid stuffing my face with pizza, cake and surgary loot bag treats. Here's a list of our top five places to go in east Texas for a kid's birthday party. Have your children ever been to a party at one of these places?

1. Party 'N Things (Nacogdoches)

Don't have time to plan a party or get everything ready before a dozen children terrorize your home? Leave all your party worries to Party 'N Things. From themed decoration setups, cupcake decorating and arts and craft activities, Party 'N Things will cater to your desired party needs. Although their website doesn't show everything they have to offer, you can visit their two convenient store locations in Nacogdoches any day of the week, or call 936-560-5501 to organize the perfect party.

2. Expressive Images (Lufkin)

Looking for a girly-girl themed birthday party? Check out all of the amenities Expressive Images offers at their Lufkin location. The girls will be pampered from head to toe and feel like princesses after leaving the shop. Expressive Images offers a large variety of cosmetic services such as makeup, hair, facials, massages, mani-pedis and photography sessions. Our GM held her youngest daughter's birthday party there, and brought in a cake and fake cosmo drinks as the girls enjoyed a relaxing at the spa. The photos were adorable!  Call the studio at 936-632-8800 for all the details.

3. Texas Pro Bowl (Nacogdoches) and Lufkin Lanes

Some of my favorite birthday party memories come from bowling alleys. No matter how old you are or how bad you are at bowling, spending a couple of hours playing the game with friends is always fun.

Texas Pro Bowl in Nacogdoches offers a few weekend birthday party timeslots to choose from at an affordable rate.
If you live in Lufkin, you can go to Lufkin Lanes to rent bowling lanes and order pizza for parties on weekends too. Keep in mind that you should try and reserve a spot for your child and guests in advance, as these places tend to book fairly quickly.

4. Lunar Mini Golf (Lufkin Mall)

You can't go wrong when you mix glow in the dark and mini golf together. At Lunar Mini Golf in the Lufkin Mall, 90 minute birthday party packages are offered for $80, which includes unlimited golfing for up to 10 guests. They also have a 'Party Zone' as a place to hang out during the birthday party hours, and free glow in the dark bracelets for all birthday party attendees. Like the bowling facilities, it would be a good idea to call early to reserve birthday hours, so that you can get a timeslot and not miss out on some fun mini golfing with friends.

5.  Ellen Trout Zoo (Lufkin)

Who doesn't love animals? Having a birthday party at the zoo can be fun for kids and adults alike. The Ellen Trout Zoo in Lufkin offers a wide selection of great animals to see including monkeys, alligators, hippos, giraffes and more. The zoo also has a pavillion that can be rented out for birthday parties - perfect to take a break to have lunch, serve cake or open presents before exploring the rest of the amazing animals the zoo has to offer. Call the zoo in advance at 936-633-0399 to reserve the pavillion for your family and birthday party guests.
