Can This Be “Un-Invented”?
It's pretty common to hear people discussing different things that they wish had never been invented. For some people, it's cell phones. For other people, it's stuff like alarm clocks. Everyone's got their reasons for not wanting some inventions in their life. And I am no exception to the rule.
Every now and then, I find myself with some time to just ponder things. Hence, the pondering of items that I wish had not been invented.
The first thing that comes to mind is the recorder. You remember those goofy little wannabe clarinet/flute things that they "taught" you how to play in elementary school? Those were the ones that were taken home to practice, and wound up being snapped in half and launched across the room by parents after about 2.35 seconds of noise-making. Dramatic? Nope. Necessary? Absolutely.
Then, there's the toddler shoes with squeakers built into them, so that they squeak with every step. You know the ones that I'm talking about. The ones that sound like a dog toy. I might disown family members if they ever purchase those for my kids. "But they make it easier to keep up with your kids!" If you're one of the ones making this argument, you can stop.
So, as you can see, these things that I have mentioned up to this point are noise-makers. I don't do well with obnoxious, repetitive noises. However, the thing that, in my opinion, should be "un-invented" if possible, is...
The Reply-All button on emails. This is a tool that could have been so very handy, but has now been abused and trashed, and can now die a slow and painful death. So, someone sends out a mass email. That's fine. However, then you have to deal with the 347,832 emails that are replying "yes" or "no" to the original sender. This is not alright.
There you go. What should be "un-invented"? Noise makers and Reply-All buttons. Is there anything that's been invented that you can do without? Let us know in the comment section below.
