Chris Stapleton, Kings of Leon Cover Lynyrd Skynyrd on New Year’s Eve in Nashville [WATCH]
Chris Stapleton ended his already incredible 2015 on a high note, performing for more than 150,000 people at Nashville's New Year's Eve Jack Daniel's Bash on Broadway. In addition to his own set, the singer-songwriter joined headliners the Kings of Leon for a cover of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man."
Press play on the video above to watch the entire performance. KOL's Caleb Followill takes the lead on the first few lines of the song, but Stapleton earns a loud cheer of approval from the crowd when his turn comes. The two artists continue to trade off lines during the verses and harmonize on the tune's instantly recognizable chorus while the rest of Kings of Leon jam out.
Since his big night at November's 2015 CMA Awards, during which he won Album of the Year, New Artist of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year, Stapleton has been flying high: His debut solo album, Traveller, landed in the No. 1 spot on the all-genre Billboard 200 following the CMAs, and he's been earning new fans and racking up more critical acclaim.
“It’s unbelievable,” Stapleton reflects of his CMA Awards successes. “This is an unbelievable thing, and I’m not going to take it lightly.”
However, he admits, "I have no idea what’s next ... It’s been a bit overwhelming, but I’m going to do my best to handle it with some degree of grace. I’m gonna keep making music that hopefully I think is good, and whatever comes out of that, that will be fine with me.”
In addition to Stapleton and KOL, Kelsea Ballerini, Sugar & the High-Lows, the Whigs, Wild Cub and LANco helped ring in 2016 in downtown Nashville at the Bash on Broadway. The event featured a music note drop and fireworks display in addition to all of the live music.
