Danny Whisenant named Lufkin Middle School Principal
According to a press release from the Lufkin Independent School District, Mr. Danny Whisenant has been named the principal of Lufkin Middle School after the recent announcement that Mr. Jesus Gomez would be taking another position at Hays Consolidated in Kyle, Texas.
Mr. Whisenant has been with the district for 13 years and was recently appointed the position of Associate Principal of Curriculum & Instruction at the middle school serving in that capacity over the past couple of months. He was the principal at Slack Elementary for the past four years.
He earned his Bachelor's degree from Stephen F. Austin State University with a double major in English and History and his Master's degree in Educational Leadership. He began his career as an English Language Arts/Reading Teacher. He has served at Lufkin Middle School in the following capacities: classroom teacher, 7th grade Assistant Principal, Special Education Assistant Principal, Instructional Coach.
Mr. Whisenant said, “I am both excited and honored to have been chosen as the new principal of Lufkin Middle School. The opportunity to serve our students, parents, staff members, and community is a sacred obligation—and I remain committed to working alongside each of our stakeholders to achieve exceptional outcomes for all students.”
Mrs. Lynn Torres, Superintendent of Lufkin ISD, said, “We are pleased with the announcement of Mr. Whisenant as the Lufkin Middle School principal. He has the experience on the LMS campus and leading his own campus at Slack Elementary to make a seamless transition to the middle school. He is well respected in the community and among parents and students alike. We are privileged to have Mr. Whisenant on our team who can easily take the helm at the middle school during this exciting time of not only building a new middle school, but also ensuring a positive learning environment for our students.”
Mr. Whisenant and his wife, Aunchalee, have a daughter named Ivy who will be in the first grade.
