Double Dose of Severe Weather Forecasted for Wednesday, Friday
Two rounds of severe weather are in the East Texas forecast for Wednesday and Friday this week.
For today (4/7), the Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma believes that Nacogdoches, Shelby, San Augustine and Sabine Counties will have see the highest chances in our area for severe weather. The eastern edges of Angelina and Cherokee Counties are also in that region. By early afternoon, strong to severe thunderstorms are expected to develop across the Pineywoods bringing with them the threat of winds gusting to 80 mph, hail up to the size of golf balls, and isolated tornadoes. The most widespread outbreak should take place in northeastern Louisiana. Storms and rainfall chances should diminish by nightfall.
For Friday, the Storm Prediction Center is forecasting that all of Deep East Texas will be in an area that could see an outbreak of severe weather beginning Friday afternoon and continuing into the evening and nighttime hours. Once again, gusty winds, large hail, and perhaps a better chance of tornadoes are expected in our area. Although heavy downpours are possible from both systems, the heaviest accumulations of rain are expected to be into Louisiana and Mississippi. An inch to maybe two inches of rain may fall in total across Deep East Texas.
Saturday and Sunday should usher in beautiful weather for the area with sunshine expected and high temperatures near 80 degrees.
