And then there were four.

After 30+ games, several rounds of playoff action, and plenty of blood, sweat, and tears, it all comes down to this.  The UIL Boys State Basketball Tournament is coming this week and weekend in Austin at the Frank Erwin Center.  And East Texas can loudly boast of a couple of teams who have earned the right to be there.

In Class 1A, Division 2, the Douglass Indians will make their first ever appearance at the state tournament.  Douglass (29-6) will play in the state semifinal game against the Water Valley Wildcats (33-2) with the game scheduled for tip off at 7 p.m. Friday.  This will also be the first tournament appearance for Water Valley which is located just outside San Angelo.

Douglass and Water Valley have only had one common opponent this year in Menard.  The Wildcats beat them earlier in the year 77-44, while Douglas beat them 61-34 in the playoffs.  The winner of this game will advance to the state championship game which will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday night against the winner of the Roxton/Texline game.

In Class 1A, Division 1, the San Augustine Wolves will be making their 2nd ever state tourney appearance, the other coming back in 1973.  San Augustine (23-6) will be taking on the undefeated Mumford Mustangs (38-0) with the tip off coming Thursday morning at 10 a.m.   Mumford, which is located near College Station, was also undefeated last year before losing the championship game against Clarksville.

The winner of this game will play in the championship game which is scheduled for Saturday morning at 8:30.

Go Indians!   Go Wolves!
