
These 13 Deep East Texas Girls’ Basketball Teams Are On a Roll
It's playoff time for Texas high school basketball. The guys will get their first-round games underway next week, but the ladies are now into their second round of the UIL playoffs.
We have quite a few teams in the Pineywoods that have won their first-round games and are bi-district champs. Here's a look at those teams as well as what lies ahead in their 'area round' games.
Class 3A, Division I
The Diboll Ladyjacks (26-4) are bi-district AND area champs. They defeated Coldspring Thursday evening and will now advance to the regional semifinals to take on either Maypearl or Little River Academy.
The Central Lady Dogs (13-10) will take on #13-ranked Hitchcock (24-4) on Friday night at Willis High School. The game tips off at 6 p.m.
Class 3A, Division II
The Central Heights Lady Blue Devils are bi-district AND area champs. They defeated Anderson-Shiro Thursday night and will face either Lexington or West in the regional semifinals.
Class 2A, Division I
San Augustine (21-9) moves into their second round game on Friday night at 7:30. They will be facing 7th-ranked Hawkins (26-1) at Slocum High School.
The Woden Lady Eagles (18-9) will be playing for the area championship on Friday night against Union Grove (22-11). The game will be played at New Summerfield and will tip off at 5:30.
Class 2A, Division II
The Tenaha Lady Tigers (30-6) are ranked #24th in the state. They'll be taking on Harleton (18-10) in the area round. That game will tip off at 7:30 Friday night at Hallsville High School.
The Lufkin Panther Activity Center will be rowdy Friday night when two Nacogdoches County teams will battle in an area round showdown. The Douglass Lady Indians (21-8) will tangle with the 4th-ranked Lady Owls of Chireno (31-3), tip-off is set for 6 p.m.
Class A, Division I
The Slocum Lady Mustangs (21-12) are set to take on 24th-ranked May on Friday night. The game will be played at China Spring High School with a 5:30 tip-off.
Broaddus (30-4) is ranked number 2 in the state and has their sights set on a state title run. They'll need to get past Richland Springs in the area round. That game will be played Friday at 6 p.m. at Bryan High School.
Brookeland (31-4) is ranked 9th in the state. Their next game will take place Friday against Zephyr (13-9). It will tip-off at 6 p.m. at Fairfield High School. Broaddus and Brookeland could be heading for a regional championship showdown in about a week.
Class A, Division II
The Zavalla Lady Eagles (20-12) will battle with Priddy in the area round matchup scheduled for Friday evening at Groesbeck High School. Tip-off is at 6 p.m.
Chester (16-6) moves on to the area round to take on Abbott (10-5). That game is slated for Friday night at 6 p.m. at Slocum High School.
