East Texas in The Bull’s-Eye of Thursday’s Tornado Threat
2024 is not going out quietly when it comes to threatening weather across the state of Texas. On Christmas Eve, central and east Texas were plagued by severe storms. Some of those storms brought hail and flash flooding. Several funnel clouds and tornadoes were also reported.
Get Ready for Round Two
The Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma is advising East Texas residents to prepare for another round of nasty weather. This time the tornado threat is a bit higher.
Hail, damaging straight-line winds, isolated flooding, and tornadoes are all in the mix for East Texas. The Brazos Valley, Pineywoods, Upper Texas Coast, and the Ark-La-Tex are shaded in the area for the greatest risk of severe storms today.
Most of the thunderstorms bringing the severe weather threat are expected to push through East Texas between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. Thursday afternoon and evening.
Although a 'cold front' is responsible for being the catalyst for today's storm outbreak, you won't notice much temperature difference. The highs are expected to stay in the 70s through Monday.
Get Ready for Round Three of Severe Weather?
The Storm Prediction Center now believes another severe weather outbreak could take place, and this one is coming on Saturday. Damaging winds, hail, and tornadoes are the main threats.
As of now, it looks like the greatest threat will fall across extreme East Texas and into Louisiana. Severe storms, if they do occur, would happen mostly before noon on Saturday across the Pineywoods.
