A Lufkin family is coming to terms with the grim reality that their home was destroyed by fire just a few days before Christmas.  Thankfully, all members of the family escaped the large fire uninjured.

According to a report issued by Jessica Pebsworth, Communications Director with the City of Lufkin, firefighters with the Lufkin Fire Department were called to a home fully engulfed by fire late Wednesday night (December 22).  The home is located in the 600 block of North Raguet Street, just a few blocks north of Frank Street.

Four family members told Lufkin Fire Marshal Ozzie Jarman that they were home around 10:20 p.m. when they heard a “boom.”

“They said the house then filled with smoke and flames,” Jarman said, noting that the family said it started in a back bedroom.

All members of the family was able to escape the home uninjured. One of the residents went across the street to a nearby convenience store to call 9-1-1.

Lufkin Fire responded with four engines, two chiefs, two support staff and 20 personnel. The first unit arrived on scene at 10:24 p.m. and began extinguishing the fire. The fire was called under control at 12:20 a.m.

Upon initial investigation, Jarman said the fire is not suspicious in nature.  The home was extensively damaged and because of that it will be difficult to ultimately determine the cause of the blaze. The fire remains under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.

Please keep this family in your prayers during this Christmas season. If we hear of any agency or churches accepting donations for this family we will add that information to this post.
