Here We Go Again…More Flash Flooding Expected for East Texas
The Weather Prediction Center has issued an alert for many East Texas residents about the possibility of flash flooding occurring on this Mother's Day Sunday.
This red 'Moderate' zone means there is a 40% chance of flash flooding within 25 miles to a point within that shaded area.
Several weather models are showing that 3-6 inches of rain could fall in this area on Sunday, May 12. Given the extremely saturated ground and swollen waterways in this area, that amount of rain in such a short period of time could be devastating.
If you live in a flood-prone or low-lying area, stay alert to changing weather conditions and have a plan in place should you need to evacuate.
But Wait...There's More
The threat of rain, some of it heavy, continues throughout the upcoming week. The latest 7-day rainfall map from the Weather Prediction Center shows the potential of 7-10 inches of rain, or more, falling across East Texas between now and next Sunday (brown-shaded region).
Flood Watch Issued
Due to the possibility of heavy rain falling over the next 24-48 hours, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch effective through Tuesday morning for most of Deep East Texas.
Severe Thunderstorms for East Texas
As if the threat of flooding wasn't enough, Lufkin, Nacogdoches and much of the Pineywoods are at slight risk (2 out of 5) of experiencing severe storms. Large hail and damaging straight-line winds are the primary threats, but an isolated tornado or two are possible as well.
