Watch Issued – Another Round of Damaging Winds for East Texas
A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for much of northeast and a portion of east-central Texas until midnight tonight. Numerous thunderstorms have been developing south of Lufkin/Nacogdoches and moving generally northward, while a line of strong storms near Dallas has been moving southeastward.
Once again, damaging winds and large to very large hail will be the primary threats, but a tornado or two can not be ruled out of the equation.
The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 95 statute miles north and south of a line from 40 miles west-northwest of Longview, Texas to 15 miles east northeast of Shreveport, Louisiana.
Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties are included in the watch area.
The Deep East Texas area has been plagued by frequent episodes of severe storms that have brought flash flooding and numerous power outages. Many customers east of Nacogdoches are still without power due to severe storms that moved through the area Saturday evening.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
