Melissa Wheeler has been named the new Executive Director of Habitat for Humanity of Deep East Texas. Wheeler brings more than 25 years of nonprofit leadership, fundraising, and community development experience to the role, where she will lead the affiliate in its mission to build homes, communities, and hope across Angelina and Nacogdoches Counties.

Wheeler most recently served as Development Director for the Family Crisis Center of East Texas, where she directed fundraising, marketing, and donor engagement for a regional nonprofit.

“Melissa’s leadership, vision, and passion for community building make her the ideal choice to guide Habitat for Humanity Deep East Texas into its next chapter,” said Callie Morgan, Board President of Habitat for Humanity Deep East Texas. “We are excited to welcome her and look forward to the impact she will have on families in need of safe, affordable housing in our region.”

In her new role, Wheeler will oversee the affiliate’s operations, including construction projects, homeowner programs, fundraising, and advocacy for affordable housing. She will also work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to expand Habitat’s impact and strengthen community partnerships.

“I am honored to join Habitat for Humanity of Deep East Texas and to serve alongside the dedicated board, staff, and volunteers who make this mission possible,” said Wheeler. “Together, we will continue to build not only homes but also hope, dignity, and opportunity for families in our community.”

Wheeler is a graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University with a Bachelor of Business Administration and holds the Institute for Organization Management (IOM) certification from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. A lifelong East Texan, she is an active community leader and advocate for affordable housing and community development.
