Here’s a Look at the Huge Fish From Day One of the Fall Shoot Out
Day number one of the Sealy Outdoors Fall Shoot Out is in the books, and an angler for the Dallas/Fort Worth area has staked his claim for the grand prize valued at $55,000. But, as tournament director Bob Sealy so often points out..."It ain't over 'til it's over."
The morning started off on a high note as the first bass of morning weighed in at 7.28 pounds. Nacogdoches native William Boyer earned the top spot of the 7 am hour and a check for $1,000.
In the next hour, Mike Davidson of Coldspring took over the tournament lead with a fish that topped the scales at 8.98 pounds. That's the way things stayed until a breakout noon hour. Three out of the top five big bass were brought in during the 12 pm hour.
Shane Calvert, an 18-year-old from Coldspring brought in a massive 9.42 bass. Soon thereafter, Thomas Burrous of Huntington weighed in an 8+ pounder. Then, Brandon Hohenstein of Aubrey, Texas brought in a bass that he caught in the noon hour. That fish topped the scales at 10.30 pounds.
