High Speed Chase Ends with Crash at Love’s Truck Stop, 2 Arrested
Lufkin Police have released details concerning a high speed pursuit that started in north Lufkin on Ellen Trout Drive and ended following a crash at Love's Truck Stop on FM 2021 in the Redland area.
According to the media release from the Lufkin Police Department, Joshua Daniel, 19, and Robert Tamez, 19, were arrested Saturday night following the vehicle pursuit and subsequent foot chase
An officer was working on patrol on Ellen Trout Drive when he clocked a 2019 gray Chrysler 300 traveling 74 miles per hour in a 55 miles per hour zone. This happened around 7 p.m. The officer initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver, later identified as Robert Tamez, refused to stop and accelerated away.
Tamez headed north onto Farm to Market Road 2021 and accelerated to around 110 miles per hour. He then turned onto Winston 8 Ranch Road before heading north on U.S. Highway 59. He attempted to turn back onto FM 2021, however he lost control of the vehicle and crashed into the Love's Truck Stop sign.
Tamez and Daniel both attempted to flee on foot but were located by an Angelina County Sheriff's Office deputy and taken into custody. Robert Tamez was charged with evading arrest with a vehicle. He also had a warrant for no driver’s license. Tamez was released from the Angelina County Jail after posting a $5,000 bond. Joshua Daniel was charged with evading arrest. He was also released from the Angelina County Jail after posting a $1500 bond.
Officers with the Lufkin Police Department, Angelina County Sheriff's Office and Department of Public Safety helped the pursuit and apprehension in this case.
