The SFA Ladyjacks came into yesterday's game against the Texas Lady Longhorns with just 9 wins in 37 games.

Texas, ranked #3 in the country, had a record of 34-3, and had an 18 game winning streak, plus had not lost at home this season.

And as the cliche goes...'That's why the game is played on the field and not on paper'.

SFA pulled the shocker and beats Texas 1-0, and the winning pitcher is from right here in our neck of the woods.

Carlie Thomas

Carlie Thomas pitched the shut out and picked up the win for the Ladyjacks.  The freshman hurler played her high school ball for the Devilettes of Huntington.

Perhaps, one of the reasons that Thomas had one of her best performances of the season is that she is quite familiar with McCombs Field in Austin - home of Lady Longhorn softball.  She pitched quite a few games there over the past several years for Huntington when they made their trips to the 3A state tournament games.

Obviously, we're proud of Carlie, but it takes a team to win.  The Ladyjacks got the first inning run and made several outstanding defensive plays to secure the win.

Check out the Ladyjacks this weekend in Nacogdoches as they return to conference play against UT-Arlington.
