5 Deep East Texas softball teams are still in the hunt for a state championship. Here's a look at those teams and their upcoming regional championship games.

Brookeland vs Avery, 1 Game Series

  • Wednesday, May 13, 6:30 pm at Hallsville High School.
  • These two teams met in the regional championship last year; Brookeland won 18-0.
  • The winner of this game will advance to the state tournament as 1 of the 4 remaining teams in the Class A Softball Playoffs. Brookeland comes into this game as a heavy favorite to advance, but sometimes strange things can happen, especially in a winner-take-all one-game series. The Lady Cats are focused on bringing home the program's first state championship, and I would expect Brookeland to take this game by at least 10 runs.
  • Winner plays either Spurger or Moulton in a state semifinal matchup.

Spurger vs Moulton, 1 Game Series

  • Thursday, May 14, 6 pm at Montgomery High School
  • The Moulton Kittens are 14-7 on the season, while the Spurger Lady Pirates are 5-11-1. Moulton comes in as the favorite to win, but Spurger has found their groove at just the right time. In March, Spurger was 'run-ruled' in 3 straight games by Hull-Daisetta (according to MaxPreps). In their last playoff game, the Lady Pirates beat Hull-Daisetta 26-8. Something has changed with this team, and Moulton needs to be ready for a fight.
  • Winner plays either Brookeland or Avery in a Class A state semifinal matchup

Groveton vs Union Grove (all games at Rusk High School)

  • Game 1 - Thursday, May 14, 6 pm
  • Game 2 - Friday, May 15, 6 pm
  • Game 3 (if needed) - Saturday, May 16, 2 pm
  • Neither Groveton nor Union Grove has ever made it to the UIL Texas State Softball Tournament, so whoever wins the series will be the closest they have ever been to a state softball championship. If you go by the state rankings, Groveton should have a slight edge, but this should be a good matchup.
  • The winner will face either Thorndale or Ganado at the state semifinals.

Woden vs. Como-Pickton, One Game Series

  • Friday, May 15, 7 p.m. at Hallsville High School
  • Woden pulled off the improbable last week, taking 2 out of 3 games against Beckville, a team many considered a favorite to win it all in Class 2A, Division 2. Como-Pickton, who has over 30 wins on the season, is another formidable opponent for the Lady Eagles, but Woden's rallying cry of 'Why Not Us' is picking up steam. Como-Pickton is favored to win this one-game series, which seems to be exactly where Woden plays its best ball.
  • The winner will play in the state semifinal round against either Shiner or Burton.

Bullard vs Livingston, Best of 3 Series

  • Game 1 - Thursday, May 14, 6 pm at Livingston
  • Game 2 - Friday, May 15, 6 pm at Bullard
  • Game 3 (if needed)- Saturday, May 16, 2 pm at Lufkin High School
  • Bullard has won 18 straight games, while Livingston showed incredible grit last week, coming back from the brink of elimination to win two straight against Bellville. Both teams are looking for their first state championship.
  • The series winner will play either Calallen or Gonzales in the semifinal round.
