According to a release from the Nacogdoches County Sheriff's Office (NCSO), deputies arrested a Nacogdoches woman after she allegedly abandoned an 11-month-old child at a local convenience store Friday night shortly after 8:00 pm.

Deputies responded to the 9800 block of Highway 259 after a caller advised that she had picked up a lady that was pushing a baby stroller that was walking in and out of the roadway. The caller advised that the suspect seemed to be intoxicated. The complainant took the suspect to the store while the child remained inside the car. The suspect stated that she needed to get something to drink and asked the complainant to watch the child until she returned.

The suspect entered the store and purchased more alcohol and then started roaming around the parking lot. The suspect broke inside of a vehicle parked at the store and took a cellphone.  The suspect was then seen getting into a pickup truck with a male subject near the gas pumps and left the location.

Deputies arrived on scene and took custody of the child from the Good Samaritan who had no affiliation with the suspect.  Watching video surveillance from the store, deputies were able to identify the suspect. A short time later, deputies were able to locate the subject walking on Henderson Lane. Deputies observed the suspect was intoxicated and smelled of alcohol and marijuana.

Valerie Worry, 29, was arrested for Child Endangerment, a state jail felony, and Burglary of a motor vehicle, Class A misdemeanor.  She was booked into the Nacogdoches County Jail.

The 11 month old child was turned over to Child Protective Services.
