Is the Nacogdoches Mail Hearse Still Making Deliveries?
You see all kinds of interesting things in Deep East Texas. You see home-made vehicle modifications like no one has ever even considered. You see all kinds of construction "fixes" based on necessity, or lack of proper tools, or (fill in new reason here). I'm used to seeing things like that.
There was one thing a few years ago that I definitely wasn't expecting. This wasn't even on my radar. I saw a hearse, that was being used for a mail delivery vehicle in Nacogdoches. Yes, it really happened. No, I don't know the owner. Heck, I don't even know if it's still being used.

First Encounters with the Mail Hearse
The first time I saw the Mail Hearse, I thought it was a joke. I was in an apartment complex parking lot in Nacogdoches. I was surprised enough when I saw a hearse parked there. However, I was far more surprised when I saw the U.S. Mail decals on it. The decals looked real enough, but the fact that they were plastered to the side of a legitimate hearse made me somewhat doubtful about their authenticity. See for yourself:
Naturally, I wasn't going to just let this go. I had to find out about this thing. So, I started asking questions. Finally, someone answered me. They informed me that it was a real mail delivery vehicle, because they saw it delivering in their neighborhood.
Is the Mail Hearse Still Being Used Today?
Now the question is this: Is the Nacogdoches Mail Hearse still delivering mail today? I haven't seen it, but that doesn't mean anything. Have any of you seen it? I know that it's not delivering mail to my neighborhood. I feel like there's a "dead-on-arrival" joke somewhere around here...At the very least a joke about mail delivery times taking FOREVER seems to be appropriate...
