What Was That Loud Crash in Downtown Nacogdoches? Bottoms Up!
Chemistry and Brewing Beer
There is a lot of chemistry that comes into play when brewing beer. When malt enzymes are heated, the starch is converted into sugars and amino acids. Then, yeast is added to convert the sugars into alcohol and carbon dioxide. The amino acids will then produce the nitrogen needed for the yeast cells' growth.
Of course, there are all kinds of mixing and reactions at play when it comes to flavoring.
Don't Forget the Physics
Oh sure, a good grasp of thermodynamics is needed when brewing the perfect batch of beer. But, I'm talking about a different area of physics. For instance, Newton's First Law of Motion states an object will not change its motion unless a force acts on it.
If that force happens to be in the form of a misguided forklift, then you have the Fredonia Brewery First Law of Momentum as in...
We gonna need mo' men tuh' clean up this mess.
Oops!
Yeah, that crash...and subsequent colorful language in Downtown Nacogdoches today came from the Fredonia Brewery on canning day.
It's a big mess, and not something that you want to happen, but the folks at Fredonia are great sports and just realized sometimes the best thing to do is just to laugh at yourself. A lot of folks commenting on Facebook are also joining in the fun.
It could have been worse, at least the foosball table wasn't damaged.
A Historic Event
According to the front page of the Fredonia Brewery website,
Our town celebrated its 300th anniversary in 2016, and we are proud to be the first brewery here since the 1850s.
A little reading on their Facebook Page indicates that this type of accident hasn't happened in the 6 years that they've been open
That means it has been at least 170 years since an accident such as this one has taken place in a brewery in Nacogdoches. That, my friends, is cause to celebrate with a beer...
...and I know a place. (you may want to ask for a draft instead of something canned).
