The Angelina College softball roster is full of young ladies who were standout ballplayers at various Deep East Texas schools.  Now, they continue to showcase their talents and skills at the college level.

The Lady Roadrunners took down Galveston College on Thursday in a doubleheader sweep at the Phillips Family Sports Complex in Lufkin. Angelina College won the opener 8-0 and then outscored Galveston 9-7 in the nightcap.

The Lady Roadrunners lead the conference in homers, so there wasn't much doubt that a stiff wind blowing to the fences would create a launching pad for a host of homers. In fact, the Lady 'Runners exploded for 5 homers in the twin bill. Haley Primrose (West Sabine High School), Bailey Frenzel, Hailey Fuentes (Diboll High School) and Taylor Hartsell (Livingston High School) all went deep.

Primrose homered twice in the opener – including the walk-off solo shot in the fifth inning – while pitching a complete-game shutout in the circle. Madi Baker also drove in two runs in the early game.

In the nightcap, the Lady 'Runners rallied from a 3-1 deficit behind Hartsell’s grand slam in the bottom of the second. The Whitecaps regained the lead with a three-run fifth, but AC answered in the bottom half of the inning on a Primrose sacrifice fly to score India Braithwaite. In the sixth inning, Frenzel drove in Hartsell with a double to tie the game at 7-7, and Primrose drove home Frenzel for an 8-7 AC lead. Alyssa Collazo capped the scoring with an RBI single and a 9-7 Lady Roadrunner margin.

Jazz Tucker, who along with Morgan Louviere threw two scoreless innings in relief, shut down Galveston in the seventh to seal the sweep.

The Lady Roadrunners (26-10, 8-4) will travel to Alvin College on Saturday for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
